This was a seated pose by a younger and very expressive model.  The extension of her left leg and foot suggested dipping her toe into water.  While the jug was not part of the pose, it provides a double purpose of supporting the right leg and mythologically being a symbol of the Naiad nymphs who were goddesses that were responsible for the rivers, streams and ponds of the earth.
